Parvine Curie’s works have a double essence, that of an intimate monumentality that imposes itself through its forms, as much as it attracts and reassures us. While her practice of sculpture has evolved over a life rich from traveling and discovery, she has never stopped to embody her great sensitivity as a woman and a mother. It is therefore no coincidence that many of her works fit into this theme. Her “Mères (Mothers)” are real spaceships that symbolize the transcended, powerful and protective mother.
In the work L’enfant abrité (the Sheltered Child), we particularly feel this force. Her attachment to the stripping of forms in fact evokes a refuge as much as the comforting presence of a united family, and one cannot help but have a touched thought for his son, the poet David Marti, who died in 2007. The choice to include this work in the collection “Art For All” is therefore not trivial. It proves once again the richness of contemporary sculpture and its impact on our current society.
In 1985, Kriki invented a character, the Fuzz, half-robot, half-polymorphous fetish. An omnipresent figure in his work, he became a veritable “label” to such an extent that the Museum of Modern Art of Paris would produce an edition. This interest in the iconic Fuzz was also relayed by the Maison Louis Vuitton which, through continued sponsorship, enabled the realization of a large-scale project on Fuzz presented at the Galerie Kamel Mennour in 2000. After numerous metamorphoses, the Fuzz and the figures that continue to appear in the artist’s paintings in the form of viruses contaminating the history of art.
The fuzz has just joined the Art For All collection now and finds its way back to the LOFT Gallery, the first gallery to have exhibited the artist within its walls and during a Solo Show at the FIAC in 1987 when he was only 23 years old and to collaborate in the production of several editions during the 1990s.
Art is a language, a unique mode of expression that allows artists to experience as much as it allows audiences to feel intense or new things. Among the artists who questioned the world during the 20th century is a man who knew how to retain this explorer’s soul and continue his work on these modes of communication until he was 97 years old. Bernard Quentin, born in 1923 in Flamicourt (Picardie) passed away in June 2020. It is a life rich in discoveries, experiments and creations that he leaves behind.
A work composed of innovative designs, languages of universal scope, monumental works and crazy projects; an extraordinary and unique work that has marked the world of art, but also those of cinema, graphics, cars and furniture for decades.
To pay tribute to this essential but still too little-known artist, the LOFT Gallery is currently working in collaboration with his son, Alexis Quentin, on the archiving of his works and the production of an important monograph. The publication which will highlight the extent and scope of his works is scheduled for the end of the year 2022.
