Both had instinctively rejected the so-called “classical” techniques and forms of sculpture, a sentiment César and Hiquily had felt almost from the moment they entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where they shared seats in the Gimond studio. Moreover, in the harsh post-war period, “noble” materials were too expensive for young artists. Thus, with delight, they preferred to dive into junkyards and industrial wastelands, transforming themselves into true “scrap metal dealers” of art. For both Hiquily, a genius of balances and improbable pairings, and César, a true poet of the dynamic physical processes from compression to expansion, discarded scraps became a major source of inspiration, which they gladly shared.

For the 5th edition of Monaco Sculpture, the Artcurial auction house, in partnership with the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, will be presenting a selection of iconic sculptures from the 20th and 21st centuries from early April to early September 2024.
Among the works exhibited in Monaco are monumental sculptures that we have produced in small format for our “ART FOR ALL” collection.
In these gardens, you can also admire Francesco Marino di Teana‘s Aube, described by Tomás Alva Negri as “the most perfect and harmonious form created by Marino di Teana”. Interested in the circle since the 1960s, the sculptor began by breaking it down, before creating the sculpture Aube in 1977, the most telling example of his tri-unitary theory “1 + 1 = 3”.
L’enfant abrité by Parvine Curie can also be seen at the Jardins de la Petite Afrique in Monaco. “L’habitacle-mère” reveals a stripped-down form, embodying a refuge as much as the comforting presence of a united family. This 1.70-meter work is the artist’s first of this size.
Monaco Sculptures 2024 also features Yazid Oulab‘s Âlif-clou in the Jardin Saint-James. A link between gesture and spirit, but also between the two cultures that inspire the artist – Western and Arab – nails best symbolize Yazid Oulab’s work. These nails were first exhibited at the FRAC Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur in 2013.
The auction will take place on July 10, 2024 at the Hotel Hermitage, Monte-Carlo.

At the Centre Pompidou’s “Bande Dessinée, 1964-2024” retrospective, you can admire works by Philippe Druillet, one of the leading French authors of futuristic comics. Since Le mystère des abîmes, his first book published in 1966, Philippe Druillet has been one of the French cartoonists who revolutionized science fiction comics.
Beginning with the advent of the counter-culture in the 1960s, this exhibition looks back at the modern and contemporary history of the ninth art in its three main areas of expression: European creation, Asian manga and American comics.
Creating links between different authors, the “Comics, 1964-2024” exhibition allows visitors to discover their creative processes, while grouping them around common themes present in their works, such as memory, dreams and anticipation. This retrospective also focuses on the emotions conveyed by comics, and on the artistic techniques specific to each artist.
This is what Philippe Druillet says in the podcast Visites d’expos, in which he looks back on his mythical works and discusses his technique and influences.
“So I have a technique that isn’t really a technique, but I go into a trance. I’m not in control at all and I let myself be guided. I break from the real world − phone calls or whatever − and I enter another world, and that’s where it develops.”

On this occasion, come and discover the new work “Monozygotic” from the collection Art For All by Galerie Loft.
When he shapes his works, Quentin Garel works with the material with an obvious love for organic forms. Exploring their materiality while deliberately playing with our perceptions, its changes of scale, sometimes excessive or hybridized, disturb our representation of what exists. For Christine Argot and Luc Vivès, in his Osthéomorphoses “he combines the Beautiful and the False, which nevertheless seems true – a distorted, falsely specular reflection of reality! He is a naturalist artist, collector of extraordinary skulls gleaned from his mind.” In his work on the Monozygote, a phantasmagorical bird skull in a tripod, he thus crystallizes in the same work his concern, but also a certain derision, for the destiny of animals, as much as humans, in the heart of a world in full swing. mutation.

Du 13 novembre 2023 au 27 janvier 2024, L’Orangerie de Cachan vous invite à découvrir l’univers singulier d’Antonio Seguí, illustre peintre d’origine argentine disparu en février 2022.
Exposition d’une cinquantaine de pastels d’Antonio Seguí
Cette exposition est l’une des rares à présenter une série de pastels de l’artiste aussi importante. Cette technique était prisée du peintre, car elle lui permettait de représenter rapidement les impressions de la vie et de la ville qu’il captait.
Antonio Seguí et ses œuvres ont parcouru le monde, mais l’homme était attaché à Arcueil et à Cachan où il avait tissé de fortes amitiés humaines et artistiques. En lien avec cette exposition, une soirée de tango avec le duo Juanjo Mosalini et Vincent Bögeholz sera proposée à L’Orangerie le 11 janvier, jour de l’anniversaire de l’artiste. Par ailleurs, la version courte du documentaire réalisé par François Cartonné et consacré à Antonio Seguí, El gran teatro del mundo, sera diffusée durant toute la durée de l’exposition.

Galerie LOFT pays tribute to the artist Bernard Quentin on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth, at 3bis and 4 rue des Beaux-Arts. At the same time, it is teaming up with his son, Alexis Quentin, and his wife, Florence Quentin, to produce a major monograph, currently in progress, tracing his artistic development. Bernard Quentin was as fascinating as he was compelling, and distinguished himself by his smile and humanity.
Discover Bernard Quentin’s inflatable works at 4 rue des Beaux-arts. Bernard Quentin has studied new supports and materials such as PVC. He was one of the first to create frameless furniture using this material. He is also interested in architecture and monumentality.
At 3bis rue des Beaux-Arts, you’ll find the evolution of Bernard Quentin’s works and paintings.
Having witnessed both horror and solidarity during the war, he then became involved in building a better world in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district, an essential part of Parisian intellectual and cultural life in the 1950s.
A few years later, Bernard Quentin embarked on a journey around the world in search of the Universal. During this quest, he discovered the countless languages, cultures and religions that can both unite and divide human beings. From then on, his main objective became that of being a witness and guide to the union and cohesion that art can bring about.
Through his studies and questioning, Bernard Quentin explored writing and calligraphy.
As a pioneer of semiological art, he developed the universal language known as “Quentin BabelWeb”. His work was a precursor of contemporary design and Land Art.
